Strawberries

We cultivate different strains of strawberries in our greenhouses in Horst: the so-called continuous cultivation strawberries and perpetual flowerers. Through the combination of these different strains, we can provide delicious, top quality strawberries almost through the entire year.

Our strawberries are cultivated on coconut fibre substrate. This natural basis has an ideal water-air ratio and ensures proper root development of the plants.

We check the growth and quality of our plants every day. We check the leaves and fruit and also look for the unwanted visitors that can cause disease or plagues. In order to combat pests, we employ useful insects (such as the predatory mite Cucumeris) and organic crop protection. Everything must be coordinated with each other in the proper balance for an optimal harvest.

The pollination of the plants also occurs naturally, through bumblebees and bees.

Our strawberries are picked in containers of 200 to 500 grams. The majority is for export. A small portion of the harvest even goes all the way to Japan. These strawberries are packaged after the harvest like beautiful bonbons, in neat rows of the same size, covered with bubble wrap. Each pallet is inspected by the inspection authorities. Strawberries picked today will be packaged, inspected and shipped via refrigerated airfreight to Japan tomorrow.
